Shortly after graduating from The Ohio State University, Josh shipped off to Parris Island where he graduated first in his class from Marine Corps Boot Camp, then went on to graduate first in his class from Marine Corps Intelligence School.

He enlisted as a Marine Reservist and served in the Reserves while earning his law degree at Case Western Reserve Law School. He was first called to serve in Iraq as an Intelligence Specialist in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 2004. In 2007, Josh answered the call to serve another tour in Iraq.

During both Iraq tours, Josh operated throughout the Al Anbar Province and was awarded the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal for "superior performance of his duties."
